Benenden Healthcare’s mission statement is to observe and promote the principle of mutuality in the provision of healthcare services: complementing the NHS when necessary by providing current members and their family and friends with a range of quality services in return for affordable and equitable contributions; safeguarding the future by conducting itself in an open, caring, responsible and business-like manner.

As a mutual healthcare provider, Benenden Healthcare Society is run to provide benefits for its members rather than to generate profits for shareholders. A strong mutual ethos is coupled with a legacy of service dating back more than a century.

Our legacy and vision is important to us – today’s business model for Benenden Healthcare remains true to the values and ethos upon which the Society was established but strives to progress the business to ensure that we meet the needs of existing and future members.

  • We are open, honest and straightforward; we offer transparent communications about our discretionary services; we provide healthcare for one flat fee – regardless of age or medical history; we strive to provide you with access to healthcare services when you need them most.
  • We listen to and respect others' views; our members regularly rate our member service department with over 90% satisfaction ratings due to the way we communicate, listen and respond to member needs. The discretionary healthcare services that the Society provides are based on the feedback it receives from contributors, to ensure they are responsive and tailored to the needs emerging from the bottom up, rather than being imposed from the top down.
  • We make the time to care for and support others; our members come first. We strive for healthcare excellence across our entire range of healthcare services and take the time to provide excellent service and support to our members.
  • We use our resources wisely; our mutual status means that our profits go into improving and expanding the services we offer.

  • We deliver high standards of service and professional care at affordable costs. Membership is one flat rate of just £1.50 per person, per week.
  • We respond flexibly and positively to change, tracking the latest healthcare trends; responding to market needs and the health and wellbeing need and nuances of our members: current and future.
