Kevin Barron to address Benenden international conference

The Rt Hon Kevin Barron, Chairman of the Health Committee and Labour MP for the Rother Valley will be the key note speaker at the first Benenden International Conference, held in conjunction with AIM (Association Internationale de la Mutualité). The high-level conference will take place in York on Friday 5th October 2007, the day following the annual meetings of AIM.

Kevin Barron will address the topic ‘National Solutions to 21st Century Healthcare’. The conference will look at the variety of healthcare systems used in countries around the world and how they might develop. In particular, it will consider the possible systems the UK could employ in the coming decades.

Colin Christopher Bennett, CEO at Benenden Healthcare Society, said: “Healthcare remains a topic of huge political and social importance and, with political changes expected in the UK soon, this is the ideal time to be debating the potential future of our healthcare system. Kevin Barron will offer a fascinating viewpoint on the conference’s subject matter and will be a major attraction to attendees. We are proud to be hosting such a prestigious speaker at our event and drawing attention to issues of such significance, not just to the UK but to countries across the globe.”

Other confirmed speakers or presenting organisations include:

·         European Commission, DG Health and Consumer Protection – Nick Fahy
·         Professor of Cancer Medicine, Imperial College – Karol Sikora
