Why choose Benenden Healthcare?

Benenden Healthcare has been providing affordable healthcare services to members of the public sector for over 100 years.

We're an affordable alternative to private medical insurance

The main reason for choosing Benenden Healthcare is your response to this question: would you like access to a range of first-class healthcare services at a cost of just £1.50 per person per week?

If the answer is 'yes', we're probably the right choice for you.

What is Benenden Healthcare?

We’ve been providing affordable healthcare to public sector workers and their families for over 100 years. And although we now include people who work for charities and other approved organisations, we still continue our traditions by offering discretionary healthcare for only £1.50 per person, per week.

It sounds too good to be true - so how do we do it?

As a mutual healthcare company, we don't have any shareholders to pay out to. So any surpluses are ploughed back in to improve and expand the services we offer to benefit our members.

And by recruiting those members from a carefully-defined group of people - only public sector employees and those of other approved organisations - we can ensure that membership remains excellent value for money. Our services are discretionary, which means that should the unthinkable happen and you need to access one of our healthcare services, we would ask that you consider how urgent your case is before contacting us. For instance, if you're very worried, or if waiting for the NHS will have a negative impact on your health. In turn, we use our discretion to consider your case. For example, if we feel your quality of life will suffer during a long wait on the NHS, we'll step in. This way, we can help those who are in real need and keep contribution rates affordable for all.

Our healthcare is affordable to all. Just £1.50 per person per week gives our members and their friends and families access to discretionary services which complement the NHS services.

So you can supplement your healthcare needs and access diagnosis, treatment and preventative healthcare services tailored to the needs of you and your family - the care you need when you need it most.

And membership couldn't be easier:

• No medical questionnaires
• No restrictions based on medical history
• No upper or lower age limit
• No increase in cost when you use our services - because we're not an insurance provider
• Membership is flexible – it moves with you even if you change jobs or retire
• Once you join, you can extend your membership to family and friends – and the eligibility criteria do not apply to them
• Our exclusions are upfront and honest.
