Benenden Hospital has taken delivery of eighteen state of the art beds which will ‘revolutionise’ patients’ comfort and make life easier for the nurses and porters.
The highly flexible and manoeuvrable beds can even be taken into the operating theatres and procedure room, meaning patients will not have to be lifted onto trolleys and then on to the operating table.
Ergonomically designed to bend so that patients can relax in a supported semi-sitting position the beds have no bars and no nooks and crannies to harbour germs, making them much more hygienic, too.
“The beds are designed for short stay hospital units and they look less scary than the traditional hospital beds,” said Julie Laidlaw, Sister of the Day Surgery department, whose ward is the first to install the beds.
“They are comfortable, which is an essential basic requirement and have the added ability to reduce or eliminate lifting and bending making them easy to use for staff. Before we decided to buy them we had a couple on trial and the patients loved them, saying there were visually appealing and incredibly comfortable."
The beds represent a substantial investment for the hospital.
Benenden Hospital is set in the countryside between Cranbrook and Tenterden. It treats members of The Benenden Healthcare Society, NHS patients under the Free Choice scheme, and private patients.
