Healthcare ladies Race for Life

Family running along a road

12 Jun 2008

A team from the York-based Benenden Healthcare Society will take part in the Cancer Research UK ‘Race for Life’ on Sunday 6th July.
The ‘Benenden Ladies’ have taken part in this event for a number of years and have regular contact with members of Benenden who use The Society’s Cancer Care Support benefits, as well as personally knowing friends and family members who have had Cancer.
Sally Harris, one of the Benenden Ladies said:
“My cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer at 35 years old; she is the mother of two small children so for her to be facing this at such a young age was a huge shock to all the family. Thankfully everything has gone well and she has recently been given the all clear, but it certainly brought it home to me how many families are affected by cancer.”
Another Benenden Lady, Jenny Poulter, said:
“My motivation for doing the run is to raise money for Cancer Research as I lost my Dad to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma a few years ago; it’s one of those cancers that they don’t know a tremendous amount about.”
The Benenden Ladies hope to raise £500 for Cancer Research UK, and their fundraising webpage can be found at: www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/benenden_ladies
